The 2022 GTA 6 leak, and how much of it was real
A September 2022 network intrusion dumped roughly 90 clips of an in-development GTA 6 build. Rockstar confirmed the footage was genuine. Years on, most of what it showed matches the official game.

On September 18, 2022, an attacker later identified as a teenage member of the Lapsus$ group posted about 90 video clips pulled from Rockstar's internal network. The footage showed an early build of Grand Theft Auto VI: test scenes, debug menus, and unfinished animation.
Rockstar confirmed within days that the material was real, called it a "network intrusion," and said development would "continue as planned." The hacker was convicted in the UK in 2023.
It matters here because it was an accurate preview. The leak already showed a Vice City setting, two leads named Jason and Lucia, a Bonnie-and-Clyde dynamic, a diner robbery, and swamp/Everglades areas — all since confirmed by Rockstar's own trailers and the Extended Look. Treat the leak as history, not as a roadmap: build details, names and mechanics changed between 2022 and release.
